The quality of the production might be single-handedly responsible for making or breaking an album, so it is well deserved that sometimes we shine the spotlight on the men and women working often long and lonely hours in the bowels of studios to make sure that the bands you love sound as awesome as you want them to. Of course, it helps that our guest for this episode is also a great musician - a drummer, in fact, and so he has the perspective of how it is to be on both sides of the mixing desk. That shows on the way Jaime Gomez Arellano perceives and talks about music - he is an excited fan when he nerds out about the songs on his list for the Ten Rounds, but all of a sudden he can also switch to producer mode and throw you off with some tiny little technical detail you had never thought about that ends up making you listen to some piece of music in a totally different way.

Gomez has been a wonderful friend for a long time, so it made sense to pluck his name out of the guest shortlist now that he’s concluding a particularly important professional and personal change, having moved Orgone Studios to Portugal (a neighbour of The Devil's Mouth now!) and adjusting to a new perspective on his job. From Ghost to Cathedral, from Paradise Lost to Oranssi Pazuzu, from Sólstafir to Angel Witch - regardless of your sonic poison of choice, chances are you have some awesome-sounding albums in your shelves that owe that punch to this dude, not to mention his drumming for acts as diverse and as remarkable as Messenger, Mothlite, Septic Tank or Mirror, so it’s a fascinating ride to take a look back at his musical life through the always significant challenge of the Ten Rounds. Don't miss his great choices and some thought-provoking insights from someone who operates within the very entrails of the music we all love.
